Hello there! Welcome to my very first blog and first blog post on “Thriving as a Trailblazer.” This blog is my digital space where I’ll share my experiences as a brown boy venturing into uncharted territories, a celebration of the love I have for learning and my journey towards exploring new fields, ideas and cultures.

Let me introduce myself to those who’ve wandered onto this page. Born in the ’90s, I have spent my life crisscrossing between the Palmetto and Tar Heel states, absorbing the unique cultures, enchanting natural beauty and diverse cooking. My love for travel is only surpassed by my taste for good food and thirst for knowledge. If you ask me about my favorite author, without a second thought, I’ll tell you it’s Brene Brown. Her words have a way of resonating with my thoughts and inspiring me like no other.

You might wonder, why started a blog? My answer is, why not?

The communication and marketing industry, like many others, is marked by disparities in representation. According to recent stats, 63.9% of all directors of communications and marketing are women, with men making up the remaining 36.1%. Further, while the majority of professionals in these roles are White (74.6%), other ethnicities are underrepresented, with Hispanic or Latino (8.7%), Asian (8.2%), Unknown (5.3%), and Black or African American (3.0%) trailing behind (“Director Of Communications And Marketing Demographics and ..”, n.d.). As a Black man in this field, I often find myself in spaces where there are few who look like me. This blog, therefore, is my attempt to add my voice to the conversation, inspire others who might share my experience, and demonstrate that yes, we too can thrive as trailblazers in our respective domains.

So, what can you expect to read on this blog? Well, just as my interests and experiences are varied and vast, so too will be the topics I write about. From marketing, communications, leadership, food, travel, photography to an array of other exciting things I’ve experienced throughout my life—you’ll find it all here. This blog is a platform where I will share my discoveries, insights and stories from my unique journey.

But why should you spend your precious time reading it? Besides the valuable insights you’ll gain, I promise you laughter. Yes, sprinkled throughout the deep thoughts and reflections, you’ll find dashes of humor. Life, after all, is as much about the laughter as it is about the lessons. And here, on Thriving as a Trailblazer, I aspire to deliver both.
